Welcome to Camp Kitty! If you're interested in boarding with us, please review our policies, rates, and frequently asked questions below. If you still have questions, please contact us.

New Camper Information

All cats must arrive in a carrier. No exceptions.

Be prepared to spend 10 minutes checking in your cat(s). You will have to fill out the New Client Registration Form, review and sign the Contract, as well as present your cat’s current proof-of-vaccinations. We will also discuss your cat’s feeding schedule, personality, and any other current issues.

To shorten your time, you can fill out the New Client Registration form, as well as submit your cat’s vaccination records online. Also, you can have your vet fax your cat’s current vaccination records to Camp Kitty at (404) 937-6172 if you do not have them.

Camp Kitty provides the litter, litter box, and bowls. You should bring the following for your cat:

  • Food. Make sure you bring enough for their entire stay.
  • Bedding. This could be something as simple as a towel or t-shirt. We encourage you to bring something that smells like home.
  • Scratching Board. This is optional, but it does help reduce stress.

Basic Policies

  • All cats must be at least 12 weeks old.
  • All cats, older than 6 months, must be spayed/neutered and current on their vaccinations. Cats must be vaccinated for rabies and distemper (given commonly as FVRCP).
    • FeLV is NOT required, but highly recommended.
  • We do accept FIV+ cats; they will not be allowed to mix with other boarders.
  • We do not accept cats with Feline Leukemia (FeLV).
  • We will not accept cats that have FIP, or any highly contagious conditions, such as ringworm or upper respiratory infection.
  • We will gladly administer medications for a $10 fee per medication, but we do not give injections.
  • All cats must be flea free. If a flea is found on your cat within the first 48 hours of his/her stay, we will treat the cat with Capstar and charge a $15 fee.

Frequent Camper Program

The Camp Kitty Frequent Camper Program allows us to reward those who camp with us frequently. For every 12 days a cat stays at Camp Kitty, the 13th day will be free. You don’t have to do anything; we will apply the Frequent Camper discount from the total bill on the stay for which it applies.

Please note: Free days cannot be accrued. No exceptions.

Are dogs allowed at Camp Kitty?

No. Camp Kitty is strictly for cats. Check out these great dog boarding facilities:

My cat requires medication. Can they still stay at Camp Kitty?

Of course! We welcome all cats that need medication, though we do not give injections.

What should I bring for my cat?

Bring your cat’s food and any bedding that will make him feel more comfortable. We provide the litter, litter box, and bowls. You are also welcome to bring scratching pads/posts and toys (little toys don’t always make it out of camp). If you forget to bring food, Camp Kitty has a retail area where we sell both dry and wet foods.

What kind of litter do you use?

We use Dr. Elsey’s Precious Cat clumping clay litter. If you prefer an all-natural, corn- or wheat-based litter, you are welcome to bring your own. We also sell brands, such as World’s Best and Feline Pine, if you would rather purchase your own.

Do you groom cats?

No, we do not. Furside Pet Grooming are highly skilled groomers in the Decatur area that we recommend.

Are my cats allowed to board together?

Certainly! Cats from the same household who get along are allowed to share a cabin. There are times when some cats must be separated due to stress-induced displaced aggression.

Will my cat get to come out and socialize with other cats?

The most important thing to keep in mind is that cats are not like dogs. When they are introduced to a new environment, they are usually quite timid, scared, and even stressed. If your cat is outgoing and playful at home, that doesn’t necessarily mean that he will be that way at camp. With all cats that board here, we assess their personality and behavior before we let them out of their cabins.

My cat hates being in the carrier. Can I just carry her in my arms?

You must bring your cat in a carrier. We are located on a busy road, and that presents all sorts of dangerous possibilities. Also, there are several cats who live at Camp Kitty and like to greet our customers and your cat may not be thrilled about that. Carriers are also necessary should there be an emergency and we need to go to the vet or even evacuate the premises.

Do you make any notes about the cats during their stay?

Yes. Each cat has a kennel card that has feeding instructions and a medication chart. This kennel card is also where we document any abnormalities such as vomiting, not eating, or litter box issues. Taking notes allows us to keep track of each camper’s input and output, which are both very important.

What happens if my cat gets sick while in your care?

Should your cat become ill while in our care, we will notify you first and then contact your vet. In case of an emergency and your vet cannot see your cat, she will be taken to either Village Vets in downtown Decatur or Saint Francis Veterinary Hospital just around the corner from Camp Kitty.

Can I drop off or pick up my cat after business hours?

There have been times when we have been able to meet people after hours, but they are usually under very special circumstances. As much as the staff here love our feline campers, we actually do have lives outside of Camp Kitty. We have families to get home to, kids to pick up from daycare, our own pets to care for, other jobs to show up to and activities to attend. Please be mindful of our business hours and plan accordingly.

Is your facility climate-controlled?

Yes, and we have a UV sanitation system.

What is your cleaning protocol?

We take disinfecting very seriously. Upon a cat’s arrival the cabin they stay in is given a clean litter box, a litter scoop, and its own dust broom. Twice a day the cabins are spot cleaned and litter boxes are scooped. We always start with the kittens and the senior cats because their immune systems are the most sensitive. Any soiled bed, blankets, or towels are washed. All bowls are cleaned in a dishwasher with high heat. When a cat leaves the cabin is disinfected with ProVet Logic. The litter box, litter scoop, and dust broom are also disinfected.
